Pollutec, in cooperation with Greater Lyon, is hosting an international Summit for cities and regions committed to the circular economy

At the heart of creativity, innovation and growth, cities play a central role as drivers in the global economy. They generate 85% of global GDP, consume 75% of natural resources, produce 50% of global waste volume and emit 60 to 80% of greenhouse gases.

Because of their situation, both central and circular, and also their high concentration of resources, capital, data and talents at a specific local scale, cities are ideally positioned to lead a planetary transition towards a circular economy from which they will be the main beneficiaries.

All stakeholders, public and private players, political decision-makers, regulators and communities will then be able to collaborate and redefine urban governance in order to implement and apply local circular strategiesthrough concrete and operational projects.

A Summit highlighting the diversity of circularity levers and projects

Cities and local authorities have a key role to play in encouraging and supporting the circular economy through economic development, urban planning and innovation policies. They coordinate civil society and the private sector in the implementation of concrete measures concerning the management of waste and materials, energy, water, land and natural ecosystems having a direct impact on urban infrastructure, the built environment and the mobility system. They must also grasp the opportunities associated with the digitisation of lifestyles by regulating the uses and exploitation of the data which are doubtless a support for circular and sustainable transition.

For all these reasons, Pollutec will, on 28 November, bring together French, European and international mayors, city and municipality policy-makers, project owners and companies who will exchange during plenary sessions, workshops and speed-dating periods on such matters as the global issues and current dynamics and also feedback, practical cases, collaborations, etc.
